Hollywood is in mourning after a former child star who went on to become a U.S. Army Special Forces officer was found dead. He was only 35 years-old.
Daily Mail reported that Michael Mantenuto took his own life with a gunshot wound to the head in Des Moines, Washington last week. He was found deceased in his car, leaving behind a wife and two children.
Mantenuto, an avid hockey player, was best known for his role in the 2004 Disney movie Miracle co-starring Kurt Russell, which was about the US Men’s Olympic hockey team that went on to win the gold medal in the 1980 Winter Olympics. He played ice hockey player Jack O’Callahan, who spoke out to pay tribute to Mantenuto after his death.
“Very sad, way too young. Condolences and love to Katie and the family,” he said.
Mantenuto later retired from acting to serve his country on the U.S. Special Forces. His death was announced by his commanding officer, Col. Guillaume Beaurpere.
“Those of you that knew Mike will remember him for his passionate love for his family and his commitment to the health of the force,” he said.
Thank you for your service, Michael Mantenuto!
